This is a One of a Kind traditional English Work Pot, with a dentil ornamentation added to the rim. This simple shape was the 19th century equivalent of today's plastic grower's pot. The form allows for easy removal of the plant for repotting.
Marbled pottery—also known as agateware—has charmed makers and collectors for millennia. The Romans first explored its swirling patterns, a practice later revived in Tang dynasty China and Persian workshops. In the 18th century, Josiah Wedgwood elevated the technique to new heights in England.
By folding together contrasting clays, potters let the materials’ natural flow create stone-like veining. The results are limitless and unrepeatable: no two pieces will ever share the same rhythm of blue earth and ochre.
