Details

The traditional Korean Moon Jar was one of the first historic forms that truly captivated me—and inspired me to learn how to make pots.

I call this piece a Half Moon Jar. It echoes the round, sensuous shape of the classic moon jar, but with a more grounded, modest volume. The result is a form that feels both timeless and quietly contemporary.

These jars are especially well-suited for indoor plantings, offering a unique and elegant presence. We’re making them in both glazed and unglazed versions. The Sea Glass glaze—softly satin in finish—catches the light beautifully and feels as good in the hand as it looks. Our Natural White terracotta, left unglazed, is naturally porous, allowing roots to breathe and plants to thrive.

  • Handthrown in Rockdale, Wisconsin
  • Glazed jar is fired to 2345° F, (1285° C).  Jar and saucer are waterproof stoneware.
  • Unglazed jar is fired to 2102° F,  (1150° C), with a fired-on mineral wash finish.  It is naturally porous, allowing air to the roots, But comes with an unglazed saucer that is coated with an acrylic sealer to resist water.
  • Drainage hole allows for direct planting.
  • For indoor and outdoor use Although these are fired hot enough that they will not delaminate in cold temperatures, if water accumulates in the pot, it may crack from the action of water turning to ice and expanding.  Best advice is to store pots inside during winter months
  • Price Includes UPS or USPS shipping to the Continental USA
