Details

Marbled pottery—often called agateware—has captivated makers and collectors for centuries. By folding together contrasting clays, potters allow the clay’s natural movement to form stone-like veining. The result is always singular and unrepeatable: no two pieces will ever share the same the same landscape of color and form.

This piece has been soda fired, adding a distinctive surface character. As the vaporized soda interacts with the clay at high heat, it creates subtle washes of color and a gently glazed sheen—effects rarely seen in traditional marbled pottery.
