These mugs have a generous feel to them, with a slightly angular silhouette.. Each was hand thrown by Peter on his foot powered treadle wheel, a process that allows him to focus attention on the individuality of each piece, rather than make them exactly uniform. They were soda fired, which means that at top temperature, a soda solution was introduced into the kiln, creating a light glaze on unglazed areas, as well as on top of glaze that was applied before firing. The results can be dramatic and rich, and also can be beautifully understated. The durable, lead-free, stoneware glaze cleans easily in the dishwasher, but you may be surprised to find that washing it by hand can be very satisfying.
