The Montelupo Flowerpot is named in homage to Montelupo Fiorentino, a town near Florence where I have worked with potters on larger-scale custom terracotta projects. Montelupo has a long history of pottery, dating back to the 14th century, when it became known for its tin-glazed maiolica. Unglazed terracotta flowerpots have long been a staple of production, owing to the durable and abundant local clay.
This style features a broad opening, a combed rim, and a beaded band set about one-third of the way up, adding subtle detail and lift.
