Details

This spiral fluted urn is inspired by the classical form of Anduze urns from the south of France.  The Anduze form is one of the most recognizable from the French pottery tradition. The form is said to have originated in the 17th century, with inspiration taken from elegant Medici urns, and blended with the more austere forms of the Cevennes region. Traditionally, Anduze pots were designed to hold orange or lemon trees in the estate gardens in southern France.

I've given a little different touch to the traditional Anduze Urn by adding an attached saucer rather than a pedestal base.  Attached saucer pots are great for indoor plantings during the colder months.

The pot and saucer are treated with an acrylic sealer to make it water resistant.  A drainage hole in the side will allow excess water to be caught in the saucer, but care must still be taken not to overwater if on a surface that could be marred by moisture.
