Details

This style of a decorative crimped rim is inspired by Shenandoah Valley, Virginia potter, Anthony Baecher, circa 1875.  According to one historian, “A. W. Bacher was, without a doubt, the most skilled of the master potters of the Shenandoah Valley."   Although he also made rather mundane untilitarian wares, he is best know for his ornamented rim flowerpots, which were typically lead glazed, decorated with manganese

My pot is unglazed white clay, and the inside of the pot, and the attached saucer are treated with an acryllic sealer, making them as waterproof as possible.  However, be careful where you water the pot; if it is overwatered, water will fill the saucer and could damage fine furniture.
